Quebec Literacy Working Group

About QLWG

The Quebec Literacy Working Group has been a sub-committee of the Provincial Organisation of Continuing Education Directors - English (PROCEDE) since 1978.

The adult education services of our eleven partner boards have the expertise to assist in the development of lifelong learning and to help our citizens reach their full learning potential. For over thirty years, our activities have included networking, sharing of ideas and initiating innovative literacy projects to meet the needs of the adult literacy community in the English school boards. Some of our most important achievements to date include:

  • Providing ongoing literacy instruction in our local school boards for adults with low literacy skills
  • Promoting family literacy programs within our local school boards as needed
  • Creating the first community-based literacy groups in the province in the late seventies
  • Forging a partnership with community-based literacy groups through the Quebec English Literacy Alliance (QELA) and with the Centre for Literacy
  • Launching and maintaining the QELA web site
  • Providing ongoing professional development for teachers, volunteers and coordinators
  • Holding regular meetings to networkand exchange ideas
  • Providing ongoing updates to our local school boards and community partners on important literacy issues
  • Participating regularly on Ministère de l'éducation du Québec task forces and committees

The QLWG is composed of representatives from the following English School Boards.
